BEAUTY AT HOME WITH
For Kate Dinon, a global brand strategist and co-founder of the communications and PR agency Character + Distinction, the beauty of home lies in its ability to warmly and authentically reflect a life well lived. Her home tells the story of a life spent across many cities, including London, Zurich, and Melbourne. Every piece of art and object has been chosen not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its personal significance, coming together to form a beautiful backdrop for the everyday moments she shares with her family. From her carefully curated art collection to a striking marigold-yellow bookshelf brimming with an ever-evolving selection of books, Kate’s home embodies a deep commitment to living with pieces that spark connection and inspire creativity.
Care and attention to detail, items collected over many years (and eras), with layered meaning. Aesthetically pleasing and eminently comfortable. Warm, welcoming, and showing a glimpse of the characters who live in the space. It's not about matching; it's about making memories. A representation of a full life, well lived.
The everyday is what I love: dinner with my husband and our two girls, sometimes my dad, and often Emerald, our nanny, who has become part of the family. We do 'favourite things' over dinner, and it is one of those traditions that make a house a home. The conversation might be playful or deep, but it always pulls us into the present. That’s what I care about most: spaces that make connection easy and moments like that possible.
Our Willy Rizzo side tables in the master bedroom. They’ve moved with us from Europe and have become oddly non-negotiable – if they don’t fit, we can’t live there. They’re glamorous and a little impractical. I suppose that’s me, too. I’m loyal to the things I love, hold high standards, and will rearrange everything else around the right thing if it's already in place.
It’s all part of the same instinct to live with objects and ideas that make me feel something. Art came first for me, even before I could afford much of it. And when I started collecting, I realised it would always be the anchor. The rest, furniture, color, textures, objects, comes next.
I think of it the way I get dressed: I start with the shoes and build from there. It might not be the obvious starting point, but for me, it’s how I set the tone.
My Commissioned Editions bookshelf. It’s marigold yellow, which I still can’t get enough of, and it holds a constantly changing rotation of books and objects I’m thinking about. It represents my curiosity and my love for a well-designed book cover and a pop of colour. It gives me a full-frontal visual of things that inspire me. And there is always room for new things to arrive.
