Laundering Your Linen

Washing

We recommend a warm (up to 40°C) gentle machine wash with an all-natural detergent or a detergent that does not contain optical whiteners or brighteners. Please do not bleach, soak, dry-clean or use any fabric softeners or harsh chemicals on your linen.

As with all bedding, new linen should be washed before using for the first time. Please note, as per our returns policy we cannot accept washed linen so we recommend trying it on your bed before washing.

Laundering Your Linen

Drying & Ironing

You can line or tumble dry your linen. If line drying, please minimise prolonged and direct sun exposure where possible to safeguard the linen from uneven fading. If tumble drying, use a warm setting. Pull out promptly when finished and stretch out over the bed.

Linen can shed at the beginning of its lifecycle and this is a normal occurrence for 100% linen products. It serves to soften the linen and should subside after the first 5 or so washes.

To accelerate the shedding process, we suggest a regular (not gentle) warm tumble dry as this helps to pull the excess fibres from the linen.

Linen does not require ironing, it’s one of our most-loved features of the textile, however if desired, a warm iron setting or steamer can be used.

Linen Duvet Cover

Our Linen Duvet Covers feature a button closure made of beautiful mother of pearl to keep your duvet insert in place. Mother of pearl buttons can be a little bit fragile, so to protect them, we recommend turning your Linen Duvet Cover inside out when washing and drying to prevent the buttons from hitting the walls of the machine.

If you happen to lose or break a button, please contact customer-care@cultiver.com for a replacement.

Our Linen Duvet Covers are also finished with internal ties in each corner to secure your duvet insert. Designed to prevent your duvet from moving when inside the cover, simply gently tie each corner to your duvet upon making the bed, and remember to untie when removing to wash.

Pure Linen Towels

Our Pure Linen Towels, expertly crafted in Portugal, can be machine washed on a warm cycle (up to 40°C) and gently tumble dried. Due to the softening process during manufacturing, our linen towels may produce some excess lint when they first arrive. This will no longer happen after a few washes, so we simply recommend washing and tumble drying them separately to begin with.

Silk Linen Flip Pillowcase

Our Silk Linen Flip Pillowcase features pure linen on one side and 100% Mulberry silk on the flip. It can be machine washed on a warm cycle (up to 40°C) and then gently tumble dried. Warm iron if desired. We recommend washing dark colours separately.

Talik Velvet Cushion Cover

Our luxurious cushions are handmade in Turkey from a vintage silk velvet fabric. They have an invisible zipper closure for easy removal of the insert should the cover require cleaning. We recommend dry cleaning these delicate fabrics to preserve their beauty.

How Long Should My Linen Last?

Linen is measured in GSM which refers to grams per square metre. CULTIVER linen is produced at 165GSM, which is the optimum weight to achieve both a long lifespan and the immediate softness of your linen bedding. In times gone by, linen bedding was made from much heavier weight fabric, so it took years to achieve softness and the lightness we expect in bedding today.

When cared for correctly, linen bedding will last many years, however it is important to note that we have designed our range to ensure that our linen is soft from your very first sleep, which puts it later in its life cycle than a much heavier linen. Without this process, linen can feel ‘rough’ or ‘coarse’ to sleep in. Keep in mind that even though linen as a fabric is quite durable, it is not exempt from wear and tear from constant use and incorrect care.

Due to the strain they come under, Linen Fitted Sheets can show signs of wear earlier than on other products such as Linen Duvet Covers and Linen Flat Sheets. As CULTIVER linen at 165GSM is thicker than most, this is not a flaw in the fabric, but a normal result from frequent and considerable use. We suggest purchasing more than one fitted sheet to alternate between uses.

To ensure your linen bedding lasts a number of years, we recommend you follow our specific care instructions and follow the European mentality of ‘one set on the bed, one set on the line’ to reduce wear.

FAQ's

To maintain the breathable feel of your pure linen bedding, we recommend a warm (up to 104°F/40°C) gentle machine wash using an all-natural detergent. Avoid optical brighteners, bleach, and harsh chemicals to protect the natural flax fibers. Always wash your new linen before your first use for the best sleep experience.

Yes, our durable pure linen sheets can be gently tumble-dried on a warm setting. Be sure to remove the bedding promptly and stretch it over the bed to minimize wrinkles. If you prefer to line dry, avoid prolonged direct sunlight. (Note: Natural shedding may occur during the first few washes, which actually helps soften your European flax linen).

Machine wash your pure linen towels on a warm cycle (up to 104°F/40°C) and gently tumble dry. To manage the natural lint from the woven flax fibers during the initial manufacturing softening process, wash and dry them separately for the first few cycles.

One of the greatest features of pure linen bedding is its natural, relaxed drape, so ironing isn't required. However, if you prefer a crisper finish for your breathable sheets, you can safely use a warm iron or a garment steamer.

Crafted from highly durable European flax, our 165GSM linen bedding is designed to last for years while remaining luxuriously soft from your very first sleep. Fitted sheets take on more friction and may show signs of wear earlier than duvet covers, so we recommend rotating between multiple fitted sheets to extend their lifespan.

Our breathable linen duvet covers feature delicate mother-of-pearl buttons. To protect them, turn the cover inside out before washing and drying. Remember to untie the internal corner ties from your duvet insert before placing the cover in the wash to maintain the durable quality of the fabric.
